Steve Prosise, Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). Steve earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Agronomy with an emphasis in Environmental Science from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. After graduation, he began his career in Colorado starting as microbiology lab technician for Coors Brewing Company. Soon after the mountains were calling and Steve moved to Summit County and became an Environmental Health Specialist with the County Health Dept. Steve worked for Summit County as a Senior Environmental Health Specialist for 13 years before relocating to Durango, Colorado to work for the newly formed La Plata County Health Department. Over Steve's years as an REHS he has worked to help standardize retail food data with a statewide data standardization team, has been awarded the innovation in environmental health award, served as the lead EHS for emergency response, worked with a small but mighty group of passionate individuals from local health departments to propose new swimming pool and spa regulations to the State, led contact tracing teams during the pandemic, and has participated in several statewide groups such as the Water Quality Program Managers group. In his roles with Summit County and La Plata County Steve has always been passionate about waste water and water quality. He is excited to take on the new role as Onsite Wastewater Coordinator for the Water Quality Control Division at the state so he can assist counties and practitioners state wide.
