About me
Kara Small is the Lead Environmental Health Specialist for the Retail Food Program at El Paso County Public Health in Colorado.
She brings over 15 years of experience in Environmental Health, beginning her career in Dallas, Texas, where she conducted inspections across a wide range of programs, including food safety, wastewater, pools, child care, and vector control. In 2019, she relocated to Colorado and has since taken on a leadership role supporting staff training, quality assurance, special events, foodborne illnesses and program development.
Kara is also the current President of the Colorado Environmental Health Association (CEHA), having previously served as both Co-Chair and Chair of the AEC Planning Committee. She is passionate about fostering connection and consistency across the profession and advocating for the vital work EH professionals do behind the scenes every day.
